Jeff is a South Carolina oil painter whose landscapes, wildlife and sporting work are built the traditional way — slowly, in layers, chasing one particular hour of one particular day.
His path started early. At fourteen, his mother, Bonnie, enrolled him in an oil painting class, and he never put the brush down. He went on to earn a degree in Fine Arts, then a second in Graphic Design, and spent twenty-three years as a professional designer while painting every chance he got.
Design taught him how one image carries a story. Painting gave him the patience to build it in layers.
Those two careers shaped each other. Design sharpened his composition and his restraint — what to leave out, where the eye lands first. Painting slowed him back down. A canvas can’t be revised at the last minute the way a layout can; the light has to be right from the first pass.
Jeff credits much of his growth to his mentor, master painter Van Martin, and to forty years of steady practice. His work leans impressionistic: less about every leaf and feather, more about the way light moves across a scene and makes it feel like a specific morning you’ve stood in.
