A Bit (Or Two) About Josef Berliner
” I feel that it’s my mission (and duty) to try to make the world a more beautiful place, even if it’s only one canvas at a time.”
I don’t remember a time when I wasn’t sketching, drawing, or painting. Beginning in high school, I was fortunate to take classes with an art instructor who nurtured my passion and pushed me to be the best I could be. So much of what I am today I owe to her. While attending USC, I was incredibly blessed to be surrounded by both fellow artists and instructors who not only became mentors, but in many cases, lifelong friends.
Approximately twelve years ago, with the complete support of my husband, I took that leap of faith and assumed the mantle of professional artist, fulfilling a lifelong dream. I work in oils, and take a realistic approach to my subject matter. I’m mainly recognized as a portraitist, but my work delves into land and seascapes, flora and fauna, or whatever else my clients may call upon me to create. When I’m not occupied with commission work, I still find time to indulge in my passion for portraiture, focused on classic Hollywood with an emphasis on glamour, which has ultimately become my trademark.
I’m delighted to have been asked to speak at CAG, and I hope that you enjoy what I have to offer as much as I have enjoyed creating the presentation for your enjoyment.
